Leadership Training for Fifth Graders

Acton Academy's fifth graders who have successfully achieved their academic goals gain the privilege of embarking a journey in leadership training. Under the guidance of Ms. Kaylie, the core curriculum teacher, these students will take on leadership responsibilities within the school including greeting students at the beginning of the day as they arrive, selecting articles for group discussions, leading Socratic discussions and creating and managing community service projects for the school.

In addition to meeting weekly with Ms. Kaylie to discuss leadership skills and the method of Socratic teaching, our students will read carefully selected articles and books on effective leadership. They will have the opportunity to assess their personal leadership styles with a battery of tests. After discerning their natural styles and developing their skills, Acton Academy provides the practice arena for these young leaders to deepen their learning experience. They will graduate from the experience with a portfolio of work as a young leader and with a solid understanding of what being a leader feels like and requires from an individual.
