The Acton Guides
A Teaching Apprenticeship for extraordinary 12-13 year olds
The Acton Guides Opportunity
Calling all extraordinary 12 and 13 year olds in Austin!
- Would you like to help younger students learn about your favorite subject?
- Would you like to experiment with all the latest computer software?
- Are you curious to learn new skills or tackle new projects that will help you in your own journey through life?
Calling the parents of all extraordinary 12 and 13 year olds:
- Are you and your child looking for even more exceptional learning opportunities?
- Do you believe that the best way to master a subject is to teach it?
- Would you like your child to learn to ask the right questions and communicate simply and powerfully?
The Mission for Acton Guides
Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to lead a small group of younger students on an amazing journey that will change their lives. And here’s the hard part – you can’t tell them anything! You can lead only by asking questions.
You'll join us at Acton Academy on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 8AM until 10:30AM. Your job will be to help us build and execute powerful interactive learning experiences for an exceptional group of six to ten year olds, using the latest software and educational techniques.
Included will be leading group discussions, reading classic biographies, current events and real world challenges.
Do you have what it takes?
- Do you have a love for learning and a curiosity for new learning?
- Do you like younger students even when the can be frustrating?
- Will you promise to:
- Have your parents bring you on time or early, every time;
- Faithfully follow the Acton Rules of Engagement so you can become a Master
- Socratic Guide (see below);
- Hone each of your students with care and compassion?
If so, ask your parent's permission and download the application (pdf) or email Laura Sandefer at laurasandefer@yahoo.com to request a copy. It takes only 10 minutes to complete. Return it and you will be called for an interview.
